Your responsibility: Reporting requirement under KVG Art. 3
- Registering with a health insurance fund: All persons living in Switzerland must take out insurance with a recognized health insurance fund within three months of moving to Switzerland or of birth (Art. 3 para. 1 KVG).
- Reporting changes: Insured persons are obliged to report relevant changes, such as a change of address, income or marital status, to their health insurance company, as this information may affect the calculation of premiums or insurance benefits. This obligation is also further specified in the Health Insurance Ordinance (KVV), in particular in Article 6.
- Moving in or out: Anyone who moves to Switzerland or leaves the country must also notify their health insurance company so that the insurance can be adjusted or terminated accordingly.
The aim of this reporting requirement is to ensure that everyone in Switzerland is insured and that their information remains up to date to ensure accurate premiums and benefits. Those who fail to meet their reporting requirements may face sanctions or additional premium demands.
